Rail Trail Hike
Historic Gold Hill will host a hike along the Historic Gold Hill Rail Trail on Saturday May 10, 2008 from 1-5PM. This will be the first organized tour and hike of the Rail Trail. We initially posted it from 2-5PM, but have had a lot of response, so we're starting at 1PM instead. We'll start out on the hour and try to do four group hikes. The Tour/Hike will begin at The E.H. Montgomery Store in the village. The Rail Trail is a protected property of The Land Trust for Central North Carolina. It was developed in partnership with The Historic Gold Hill and Mines Foundation, Inc. and was protected by the Land Trust in 1997 by fee simple acquisition. The 6.92 acre property is an important historic site and provides an area for recreation.
Members of The Land Trust Staff will also be on hand to answer questions about land protection and conservation opportunities. Hikers will get a lesson in history as the Trail passes sites and landmarks in Gold Hill Mines Historic Park. Those not interested in hiking will enjoy visiting the shops for that last minute Mother's Day gift. Refreshments will be available at The Montgomery Store. Entertainers will be on hand to provide music in the village from 4-5PM.
