Tour Itinerary
We meet in the E.H. Montgomery General Store where a lot of the history will be explained. Those who do not walk can relax and enjoy reminiscing of days gone by.  The Montgomery was built around 1843 and is one of the few remaining original stores from the gold mining era.
*Tour #1 takes about about 30-45 mins. Visitors have a chance to see the Gold Hill Jail, Assay Office, Barnhardt and  Miller Shafts (go underground only to the entrance), The Chilean Ore Mill and also see the English Dry Stacked Rock Wall constructed around 1845 that is still stands  intact and creates two walls of the jail.
*Tour #2 includes all the above, plus the Log Barn, Randolph Shaft site and a walk along the Old Mining Road to the Powder House and Gold Hill Pond. (Allow approx. 1 - 1/2 hours).
*Tour #3 includes, in addition to all of the above sites, a walk along the Gold Hill Rail Trail.  The trail follows the original railroad bed as it leaves the Randolph Shaft and Gold Hill Mining Office Site then crosses the road to the Barnhardt Shaft. The trail then meanders through the woods and crosses Old Beatty Ford and Lucy Melcor Roads. It then crosses St. Stephens Church Road and continues into Cabarrus County. Add approximately 2 hours for this tour/hike.
*Gold Panning can be arranged for the group for a fee, if the group is interested.
Following the tour visitors may utilize the picnic areas in the park for lunch.   Refreshments, (cold drinks, coffee, baked goods, snacks and ice cream) are available at The E. H. Montgomery General Store.

Reservations for group or individual tours should be made in advance.  Two weeks notice required.
The Montgomery Store is open Friday,Saturday & Sunday 11AM - 4PM.   (Other Shop times vary)
