Images from 'Harper's Weekly 1857'
'Harper's Weekly' is a New York based publication. Published from 1857 to 1916, the original Harper's Weekly (“Journal of Civilization”), reported on the most facinating news of the day. It distinguished itself by criticizing New York's corrupt Tammany Hall (via the cartoons of Thomas Nast) and by publishing numerous lithographs that documented the progress of the Civil War .
Today 'Harper's Magazine' is known as the nation's oldest continuously published monthly magazine.
