We're located in the heart of the 19th century gold mining village of Gold Hill, NC.

'The Montgomery' built around 1840, has always been a favorite meeting place for the community. The photo on the left was taken on an Easter Sunday around 1900. The store was approximately 60 years old at the time this photo was taken.

Still today folks enjoy meeting at the Montgomery. The folks who visit weekly are just like family. Make us your first stop in the village. We're just what you're looking for. We're the Information Station for History Brochures, Trail Maps for Hiking/Biking on the Gold Hill Rail Trail as well as Gold Hill Souveniers, Gems and Minerals. We even have Gold Samples and Miners Assay Bottles with real 24 carat gold inside. If you're interested in a lesson in Gold Hill history or just have a few questions, ask for Vivian. As local historian, she heads the Education Committee for the Historic Foundation and serves as Vice President of the Historic Gold Hill and Mines Foundation, Inc.

Young and young at heart also enjoy stopping by the Montgomery for Hershey's Hand-Dipped Ice Cream, Cold Long Neck Cheerwine, Nehi Grape and Orange Soda. We also have Sarsaprilla Soda, Birchbeer, A&W Rootbeer, Pepsi and Coke Products as well as Old Fashion Candies. And don't forget the Homemade Fried Apple Pies (Grandma's Recipe) available weekends at The Montgomery.

And now the E.H. Montgomery General Store's Backroom Saloon serves Ice Cold Montgomery Old Fashion Sweet Tea, Sarasparilla Soda and Birchbeer.

Of course the strongest drink you can buy at Montgomery's Backroom Saloon is Rootbeer and Birchbeer. You gotta come try it. It's all good.

During cold winter months we also serve hot coffee, Warm Russian Tea w/ Ginger Snaps and Hot Chocolate.
